Chinese New Year's crafts

Many Chinese families decorate their homes for Chinese New Year

Here are some crafts for your family to make together.

福 — Fú (pinyin): Print this page and color the strokes of the character in black, and the background of the sign in red. Then hang the decoration upside down on your door.

Fú means “happiness” and “good fortune”. Since dào is a homonym for both “upside down”(倒) and “arrive”(到), the fú decoration is hung upside down. By hanging fú upside down, happiness and good fortune has arrived in your home.

蛇年大吉 – shénián dàjí (pinyin):Cut the page in half vertically. Tape or glue the left half (with 蛇年) on top and the right half (with 大吉) on bottom. Then color the characters in black. You can also color the backgroung in red, if you want to. Then hang the decoration.

Shénián dàjí is “Wishing you a very auspicious/lucky Year of the Snake!”
