Friends of the Confucius Institute at the University of Kansas


The mission of the Friends of the Confucius Institute is to complement the work of the Institute by developing a broad base of support through individual and community involvement and contributions. 

Becoming a Friend of the Confucius Institute will enrich your understanding of and appreciation for China and its language and culture. Friends enjoy special privileges, lively social gatherings, and the satisfaction of giving back to the community through their support of the Institute.

  • Attend private sessions with visiting speakers and performers.
  • Enjoy artistic, musical, and cultural events just for the Friends of the Confucius Institute.

  • Help to enrich the Institute's programs in Chinese language and culture in communities across Kansas and western Missouri.

What will your support make possible?

  • Chinese language programs for schools, which deliver Mandarin classes to districts throughout the region by interactive distance learning, support the training and professional development of Chinese teachers, and help schools introduce new classes in Chinese language and culture.
  • Concerts, lectures and other cultural events, which bring Chinese music, art, history, cultural traditions, and film to Heartland audiences .
  • Community language classes, offering a wide range of non-credit courses in Chinese to adult learners in Overland Park and Lawrence, and (starting in 2008) around Kansas by distance learning.
  • Summer programs for kids and KU students, including day camps in Johnson County, study abroad trips to China, and summer distance learning programs for high school students.
  • The further development of the Confucius Institute as a vital resource for bringing Chinese language and culture to Kansas and western Missouri, greater Kansas City, and the Great Plains region.
